What we Offer

Academics at legacy

At Legacy School of the Arts, our curriculum is designed to cultivate both academic excellence and artistic prowess. We offer a comprehensive educational experience that integrates rigorous core academics with dynamic arts programs, ensuring our students receive a well-rounded education.

21st Century Innovative Education

At Legacy School of the Arts, we believe that traditional schooling is a thing of the past. Our instruction leads innovation, preparing students to not only thrive in the future world but to shape it.

  • Flipped Classroom Model: Interactive learning that prioritizes hands-on practice over passive lectures. Teachers guide students as they work.
  • Mastery Learning: Every student is supported until they master the material. Through data-driven strategies, small group instruction, and one-on-one attention, we ensure students are ready for the next grade.
  • Inclusivity: Our curriculum reflects and celebrates diversity, ensuring representation of people of color, individuals with disabilities, immigrants, and the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Digital Learning: All assignments and curriculum are hosted on Google Classroom for seamless, paperless learning.
  • Arts Integration: The arts are woven into all subjects, enriching every classroom experience.

Social Emotional Learning

At Legacy School of the Arts we believe in educating the whole child. Middle School is tough and students need to be supported emotionally.

  • Advisory: Our students meet with their teacher mentor every morning for 30 minutes to start their day. During ‘Mic Check’ our students engage in mindfulness and explicit social emotional learning lessons while they build relationships with their peers and mentors.
  • Mentorship: Our students have mentor teachers assigned to them that will stay with them through their time in middle school.  Our mentors serve as the point person for their students and their families.
  • The Legacy Way/”Soft” Skill Building: We develop and foster emotional intelligence along with ‘soft skills.’ These are the skills that carry us through life such as collaboration and problem solving. We believe they should be taught, explored, and practiced with our students.
  • Mindfulness: Our staff and students engage in mindfulness on a daily basis to build the life long skill of calm and focus.
  • Inclusivity: Legacy is a safe space; students and staff will be respected for who they are. Our LGBTQ+ youth will be treated with the dignity and respect that they deserve.
  • Partnership with Morningside Center for Teaching Social Responsibility: We partner with Morningside Center to elevate our SEL work.
  • Restorative Justice: People make mistakes; we believe in growth and redemption. A restorative justice process is a way to uncover true needs and heal relationships via meaningful accountability.
